Shine ("we", "our", "us") operates the Shine mobile application and the website at joinshineapp.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.

We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide and improve our service:

  • Email address when you join our waitlist or contact us
  • Messages you send through our contact form

    • App data (stored locally on your device)

  • Activity completion records
  • Journal entries and reflections
  • Progress, streaks, and companion evolution data

    • Usage data (collected automatically)

  • Anonymous website analytics (pages visited, time on page, referral source)
  • Basic device and browser information for technical troubleshooting

    • We do not collect sensitive health data, financial information, or precise location data.

    3. How we use your data

    We use the data we collect to:

  • Operate and maintain the app and website
  • Send you the confirmation email when you join the waitlist
  • Respond to your support or contact requests

    4. Local-first data storage

    Shine is designed with privacy in mind. Your personal app data — including journal entries, activity history, and progress — is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data unless you explicitly choose to back it up or sync it.

    We use a small number of trusted third-party services:

    Resend

    to send transactional emails (waitlist confirmations, contact replies). Your email address is shared with Resend solely to deliver these emails.

    Vercel

    to host our website. Vercel may process basic request data as part of serving the site.

    Vercel Analytics

    anonymous, cookieless website analytics. No personal data is collected.


    Each provider has their own privacy policy and data practices.

    6. Data retention

    We retain your email address and any contact messages for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which they were collected, or as required by law. You can request deletion at any time by emailing support@joinshineapp.com.

    7. Your rights

    Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict how we process your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

    Shine is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Shine after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
